Can I get a price before the work starts?
Ask what the initial estimate includes and what can only be determined on site. Labor, parts, programming and the condition of the hardware can change the scope. Why is identification needed?

Can I book service for a tenant, employee or family member?

What is the difference between rekeying and replacing a lock?
Rekeying changes the key that operates a compatible cylinder while retaining suitable hardware. Replacement changes the hardware itself. A working lock may be a candidate for rekeying after a move or a lost key, while damage or poor condition may point to repair or replacement. The existing lock and door need to be considered.
My lock works with the door open. Why not when it is closed?
That symptom may involve the way the door, latch or bolt aligns with the frame, rather than the cylinder alone. It needs assessment. Describe when the resistance happens and avoid forcing the key. Replacing a cylinder without understanding the cause may leave the same difficulty in place.
Can a renter change a lock?
Coordinate any required permission and access arrangements with the owner or property manager before booking a rekey or replacement. This website cannot determine your rights or obligations under an individual agreement. Can you work on university-managed housing near UTA?

Can a car key be replaced without an existing key?
It may be possible, depending on the vehicle and its key system. Give the make, model, year and the type of key or remote if you know it. Tell us that no working key is available. Compatibility, required parts and programming must be confirmed for that vehicle before the work is arranged.
Is unlocking a car the same as replacing its key?
No. Entry may restore access to keys already inside, but it does not necessarily supply a new key or make the vehicle start. If the key is lost or not operating, explain that during the call. Ask whether the quote covers entry only, key work, programming or another agreed combination.
What if a child or animal is locked inside a hot vehicle?
If anyone is in immediate danger, call 911 or the appropriate emergency service first. Do not wait for a routine locksmith arrival estimate. Tell the dispatcher what is happening and follow their instructions. A standard vehicle lockout request should never delay an urgent response to a person or animal at risk.
Can you reach a car inside a restricted lot or garage?
That depends on the property's access rules and the location of the vehicle. Share the garage name, level, section and any gate or height restrictions.
